For all you new players out there that are just getting in to poker, heres a list of common poker terms that you will need to know. These terms are good both online and in a normal card game with your buddies.

Limit Poker: This is poker with set limits. For example, a 1 dollar/2 dollar limit Holdem game only allows a raise a maximum of 2 dollars at a time before the flop until the river. This is the opposite of no limit Holdem where a player can raise any amount at any time. Real About basic low limit Holdem strategy

Position (early and late): This is where you are seated in comparison to the dealer button. Early position is the spot right after the big blind and strategically has the worst position on the board because this position must call before he knows what the other players will do. Late position is on or near the dealer button and is considered the best position because you get to see how the other players will act before you make a decision whether to play your hand or not.

Blind (Small blind/big blind): These are the ante for Texas Holdem Poker. The two players the left of the dealer must place the pre-determined amount before they have a chance to see the cards. If there is a raise and either of these players fail to call, their blind is forfeited.

Pre-flop: This is when all you have is the 2 cards in your hand and the cards on there have not been any community cards revealed.

Flop: this is the first three cards that are turned over after all bets have been made and or called.
Turn: This is the 4th card to be revealed in a game of Texas Holdem.
River: This is the last card to be revealed in a game of Texas Holdem.
Board Cards: These are the cards on the table that all players share and use to make their hands

Draw: A player is said to be on a draw if a player calls a bet in hopes that the next card will give him the winning hand. For example if a player has QK in his hand and the flop is 10 Jack 2, and the player calls a bet in hopes of a 9 or an Ace.

Outs: This is the number of cards that a player could draw in order to produce the winning hand. If the flop is QJ2 and a player has 10 9, he needs either a King or an 8 in order to complete a straight. There are 4 Kings and 4 eights in the deck leaving a total of 8 outs to make a straight.

Pot Odds: This is the ratio of how large of a bet you must call to the size of the pot. If you are clearly behind in a hand but your opponent bets 1 dollar at a 100 dollar pot. It is worth risking one more dollar to see the next card that might win you a 100. But say your opponent bet 120 dollars at a hundred dollar pot, and you dont have a hand, it is not worth calling 120 dollars to see the next card.

Shorthand: This is a game of poker that has less than 6 players.

Longhand: This is a game that has at least seven players involved.

How does one decide on the casino game that is right for them? The answer is easy: go with what you know. But the follow up answer is: grow with what you like. What do I mean by that? If you enjoy the casino games offered and what to try them out, why not?

If you find yourself browsing, looking for the best in casinos online and you find one that you like, go for it. All too often, folks find a game that they like and stick with it which is fine. However, being that playing these online casino sites is really one big game of chance and odds, it would be safe to say that by trying your luck at more games, you are increasing your odds all the way around, right? So be clever when you find the online casino that’s right for you. Find one that offers more games, more odds, nice payouts, and amazing software to work with. This will leave you feeling like you are playing smart, increasing the odds that you will be back to patronize that particular online gambling site.

What is The Culture of Slots?

After you begin to play online slots a few times and you learn more about the lingo that slots players use, you will find that you are not alone. There is a community of slots players who choose slots over any online casino or traditional casino game out there. There are levels of the slots community. Tiers of slots players begin with the novice player. Soon, you can build your way up to the professional level, that’s how easy it is to learn slots and develop a passion for winning money at the game. They do this for many reasons; one is of course the ease of online slots. With this, they take to the community of online slots always, forsaking all other games in the casino.

The culture of slots online is a very unique one because it is made up of so many kinds of people. You can easily join a chat room or forum that deals with any online casino game, more specifically, slots online. Ask questions, discuss strategies, or just connect with folks who have the same gambling enthusiasm as you. When you are ready to experience the slots community and culture that so many others have already fallen in love with, sign up to play today.

In the beginning of the levels of slots online, you will see that there is always a willingness to help from more advance players. When you are playing in a regular online casino, you will see other players look over when they see you struggling. They will always help you out if you have a question. The culture of slots in traditional settings is a pretty uniform in comparison to online slots. While the majority of slots players in land based casinos are more inclined to drink or smoke given the social circumstances, online casino players will come in various shapes and sizes.

Casinos which Native American tribes operate are getting more common every day so it’s worth a word about their video poker machines. In the Indian Gaming Act of 1988, the Federal Government classified three types of game: A. social gambling that’s not for profit; B. games that don’t rely on a House bank such as bingo and lotto; and finally C. the conventional casino style of gambling games including slots and video poker machines.

To build third class casino, the tribe has to achieve a compact with the local State Government and, to be fair, many have done this. But some decided that regulation was not for them. To get around the legislation, they devised electronic bingo games that look and feel like slots and video poker machines. The headline news is that these machines don’t have a fixed hold percentage. All the machines are linked to a central piece of software that plays bingo games among all you players. Whether you win or lose is decided by the virtual ball the software “picks”.

Each game ends when a lucky pattern in the game is achieved. It’s all very ingenious and, using this technology, the manufacturers of the games claim that the payouts are identical to the third class of game.

In one little state there is a little town with a little casino. Probably, there never was something interesting. Except there’s been a crime. Nothing too heavy. No gore. Just two men who stole two video poker machines. There’s never been a crime wave in this small town but there were surveillance cameras saw the whole thing. The bad guys pulled up outside the Waterloo Exxon and Daiquiris Shop in their Chevy truck. For those of you who don’t know Maraev, that’s right next to the levee on the corner. The smaller of the two has a gimpy leg but that’s not going to hold him back. The big guy smashes through the glass frontage like it was a movie set fake. They pick up the two machines. Now that’s impressive. Each video poker machine comes in at a slimline 300 pounds but these two heroes exit their truck and drive away with the two machines in the back in 11 seconds. That’s 11 seconds!!! We’d like to be able to say these robbers peeled the machines open with their bare hands, but they used sledgehammers. They almost didn’t cheat. But they’ve made So if you meet a small guy with biceps to die for and a limp in a bar down in Louisiana, he’s buying the next round.

There are many people today that claim that gomernment must be more strict with the laws about online gambling. The reason for this shift is the series of scandals currently roiling the world of online poker. The most positive demand for federal regulation has come through the Poker Players Alliance (see http://pokerplayersalliance.org/press-releases/2008/07/22/press-release-statement-of-ppa-chairman-senator-alfonse-damato-in-response-to-online-poker-cheating-scandals/). The gory details of these scandals and all the allegations are too much to deal with here, so I’ll just focus on this press release. Former Senator D’Amato makes the point that the game of poker depends on trust. The players need to know that managers of casinos and the organisers of tournaments are committed to policing both themselves and the players. When there is a cheat probability, they leave casino immidiately. They “vote by their legs”. When cheating may have occurred on the internet, there are serious problems of jurisdiction. Who exactly has the power to investigate and what powers of sanction does the investigator have? The former Senator argues with force that public trust can only be maintained if the same level of transparency applies to both real world and online gambling. As it stands, it is left to regulatory authorities in the country where the company running the internet site has its registered office. There is very little transparency with few details of the investigations or their findings ever made public. In the history of the internet, there have been no prosecutions or formal judicial sanctions applied to any company or individual running online gambling. Players are therefore left with the quite natural feeling that there is no effective regulation. But the desire for federal intervention is not likely to meet with any new laws. So, if anyone, whether manager, organiser or player is to be put at risk of punishment, what is due process? What court or tribunal can decide whether there is sufficient evidence of wrongdoing and make a proportionate response?

Most people who play slots, hope to take home jackpot one day. There is also the pure entertainment value of playing the slots. While it would be great if there was a strategy that could make you a long term winner at slots, the truth is, there is really no such thing. First, be sure that you understand what you are doing when you play slot machines. Know what the pay tables are and what it takes to be eligible to win a jackpot or bonus before you put any coins into a machine. If you play fairly often, you can join the slots club at the location where you play. It is free to join and members get benefits like free meals, discounts on hotel rooms or even free rooms, and sometimes cash back. Perhaps the most important rule of thumb when playing slots or any game of chance for that matter is only play with disposable income - that is, money that you can afford to lose. For example, if you decide to play four sessions, stop if you have used up one fourth of your bankroll during any one session. Take a break and do something else for a while. If you win, you may decide to keep playing or to pocket the winnings for now. If you want to be able to play for a long time, make sure you choose a machine that does not penalize you for playing less than the maximum number of coins. Be sure that you are rested and alert while you are playing, and don’t play for a long period of time without a break. If you are tired, you are more likely to make a costly mistake. It is a good idea to decide in advance how much you will spend on slots during an entire day or trip. Divide your bankroll into equal amounts and play that many sessions without going over the allotted amount during any one period of play.On the other hand, if you are playing progressive slots with the hope of hitting the jackpot, you have to play the maximum number of coins in order to be eligible for the big prize. Don’t play on a progressive slot machine if you only want to play one coin at a time. Remember that slot machines are intended to be fun and entertaining. It can be exciting to win the jackpot, but the primary goal of playing slots should always be to have fun without losing your shirt!

Let me sit you down in front of a video poker machine playing Jacks or Better on a pay table that’s offering 9-6-250 like online at goldencasino.com. For those who’ve not boned up on the jargon, that’s a machine paying 250 per coin on a Royal Flush, 9 on a Full House and 6 on a Flush. That machine’s set up to pay back only a fraction over 98% of what it takes. Even if you play a perfect strategy on this machine, the theoretical return never gets above 100%. It bears saying again. No matter which lucky rabbit’s foot you got in your pants, the very best you can hope to do is to almost break even.

‘Cause most folk can’t play the perfect strategy, the House edge on every video poker machine keeps the funds rolling in. That’s why you gotta pass the carousels of slot machines before you get to the tables. They’re the bread-an-butter earners for every casino.

If I stopped there, there’s no sense in any casino cheating on the slot machines. But there’s no denying you’re right ’bout one thing. Greed’s the worm in the gambling apple. Don’t matter which side of the fence you’re on, there’s always some as thinks they’re gonna hit it big. So I’ve seen pit bosses and managers decide the Vig’s not enough and rig the games. I’ve seen a few do it to put the money in their own pockets - most of them got decent burials, too. Yeh, there’s some cheating going on, but most of it’s on your side and it’s not very subtle.

So why do some folk get so all-fired sure they’ve been cheated by slot machines? In a word: frustration. They were hot, certain their luck was in, but had a long bad session. That always makes the loss harder to bear - when your emotion gets in the way of your judgement. Gambling’s got streaks of luck both ways. On one hot August night in 1913, the roulette wheel in Monte Carlo came up black a record-breaking twenty-six times in a row. The House took millions of extra profit. Half the room got to playing the Martingdale System. They were doubling their bets after every loss. But they tapped out of money before the streak ended. Was there anything wrong with the wheel? Nope! The math god smiled and it was true.

One last thought before the thinking’s done: some of you load up your own software to run alongside video poker machines - kinda like a coach. Me, I don’t have no problem with that, but some online casinos’re uploading Dynamic Link Library subroutines to identify the applications you’re running at the same time as the casino package. They might not like some of the things they find - not within the spirit of the game from their point of view. Remember the old Chinese saying, “Big fish eat small fish.”

Catch ya ’round.
